Reading Group Explores Global “Must-Haves”

SEARCH’s reading group has re-invigorated its sessions, kicking off with a vibrant discussion of the paper “Accelerating Transformations for a Just, Sustainable Future: 10 Must Haves” on November 26th. Conceptualized by The Earth League and participants of the Global Futures Conference, this paper outlines a framework for bridging the gap between global pledges and actionable solutions to remain within planetary boundaries. The paper recommended ten essential priorities for addressing global challenges, from limiting global warming to restoring biodiversity, creating just economies, and reconnecting human well-being with planetary health. These themes align with SEARCH’s mission of synthesizing scientific research and Indigenous knowledge to communicate equitable solutions. The group explored how each “must-have” resonates with SEARCH’s work, with particular focus on leveraging place-based expertise and interdisciplinary collaboration to address climate, ecological, and social resilience.
