Dr. Marika M. Holland is a Senior Scientist and the section head for the Paleo and Polar Climate Research Section of the Climate and Global Dynamics Laboratory. Her research interests are focused on the role of sea ice in the climate system, including long-term sea ice change, ice-ocean-atmosphere interactions, abrupt high latitude climate change, and polar climate variability.

She has also been involved in the improvement of sea ice models for climate simulation. Dr. Holland has served as the Chief Scientist for the Community Earth System Model (CESM) project and as a co-chair for the CESM Polar Climate Working Group. She has been a contributing author on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change assessment reports and contributed to numerous other national and international assessments on the changing Arctic climate.
