7+ Semesters of Graduate Student Research

There’s a lot to do when you’re a full-time graduate student. Classes, projects, internships, networking, career development, and side jobs are but a handful of the things that can occupy your time. Sometimes, folks add collaborating with SEARCH to the mix. This past May, two of our Research Assistants graduated from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies after doing exactly that. Mallory Hoffbeck and Alex Shahbazi spent over seven combined semesters engaging with SEARCH team members, conducting research, and supporting in-person and virtual meetings for our dozens of Arctic experts and knowledge holders. Having earned their master’s degrees in International Environmental Policy, the two are tackling new roles. Mallory is currently at sea in the South Pacific teaching and practicing her sailing, while Alex recently rejoined SEARCH as our new Research & Program Management Fellow. We greatly appreciate their time and efforts as Research Assistants and continue to be excited to see where their careers take them next!
